Background
Cesar Millan was born in 1969 in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. His grandfather used to work on the farm. He used to join him, and over time, he became interested in dogs. Cesar was a natural with the dogs, and this later earned him the name “el Perrero.”
At the age of 21, Cesar Millan illegally crossed the US border. He only had 100 dollars and did not know how to speak English. As such, he had to find a way of surviving in the US, where he did not know anyone. He later befriended Jada Pinkett Smith, who connected him with someone who taught him English.
Dog Training Career
On arriving in the United States, Cesar Millan began working in a dog grooming store. It was during his time in this store that various individuals, including Jada Pinkett Smith. After working in a dog grooming store and learning some English, Cesar opened the Pacific Point Canine Academy, and this was his gateway to television.
Years later, Cesar Millan opened the Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles. The center specializes mainly in large-breed dogs. He also opened training clinics in various parts of the country, including Davie, Florida.
TV Career and Subsequent Success
In 2002, the Los Angeles Times ran a profile on Cesar Millan and his love for dogs. This caught the attention of MPH Entertainment, Inc. As such, its producers approached him and pitched an idea that Cesar seemed to like. Cesar was set to be featured in a reality series as he went on his daily activities. As such, the show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan began. It ran for nine seasons, and Cesar must have been well-paid for his role. It was quite popular and went on to be broadcast in 79 other countries. This was the start of Cesar Millan’s journey to success. Through this show, Cesar Millan managed to open several dog training clinics.
Legal Issues
Despite achieving a lot of success as a dog trainer, Cesar Millan has been the subject of several lawsuits. In 2006, a television producer alleged that his dog was forced to run a treadmill at Millan’s Dog Psychology Center despite being choked earlier.
In 2015, there was another incident that led to Millan being sued. A Florida nurse filed a lawsuit against Cesar after a dog released from his center bit her. Six years later, a lady named Lidia Matiss sued Cesar, noting that one of his dogs had attacked her, and Cesar was supposed to pay her 850,000, given that the dog was dangerous. It had previously killed American actor and rapper Queen Latifah’s dog.
